The wait is over! On Sunday, June 27th, a beautiful crowd of all ages and stages of life gathered in our new kids’ welcome space to celebrate our Grand Opening. The excitement was palpable, and EVERYONE was eager to take a peek at the Play Place.
After Travis shared a prayer of blessing, I led the 3rd grade class on a tour of the classrooms and the Kids’ Center. They oohed and aahed over the bright colors, the stage with video and multi-colored lights, the wide hallways and the amazing classrooms. They became even more excited about their classrooms that are being renovated and will be ready at the end of the year. We finished the tour in everyone’s favorite spot – the Play Place. There, the kids eagerly removed shoes to take a turn climbing through the play structure.
Many more people toured the space throughout the morning, reminding me of how grateful I am to serve kids and families in a church where so many generations live and worship side-by-side. We have so much to learn from and to teach one another, and we are a true representation of the kingdom of God. This project has been possible because of God’s blessing and because people who will never benefit personally have been extraordinarily generous. As Travis likes to say, they’ve planted a tree in the shade of which they will never sit.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve also heard the reactions of many families as they bring their kids to Heart of the City Kids (formerly WEE). They are awed by the space and moved by what it says about FBC Huntsville’s commitment to young families. One child told his mom he never wants to go home! This week, child after child left saying, “Dad! Let me show you my new inside playground!”
This is just the beginning. Every week, new families with young kids visit. I pray that they will feel at home in our midst and that they will be impacted by the love of Jesus that flows through this family of faith. To see photos from this event, please click here.
Gratefully, Kristin
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Ephesians 3:20-21
